Sant Singh Sahib Guru Dev Singh Khalsa, Ph.D.

Workshop: Sat Nam Rasayan

BIOGRAPHY

Guru Dev Singh Khalsa, standing 6'2", a large man not only in stature but also in compassion, is a healer, a teacher of the ancient healing art of Sat Nam Rasayan and the sustainer of a lineage of healers. Guru Dev has dedicated his life to teaching this healing art that was originally taught in silence from one teacher to one student. It is the first time in history that Sat Nam Rasayan is being taught, out loud, to anyone who wishes to learn. To achieve this task, Guru Dev has had to create an entirely new language for Sat Nam Rasayan.

Guru Dev travels, both healing and teaching, 80% of the year, to 40 countries including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Chile, and India. He hosts numerous workshops and retreats around the world, including a weeklong course in the sacred city of Assisi, Italy.

Born in Puebla, south of Mexico City, on Dec. 10, 1948, to a traditional Mexican family, this was not the path that was expected of him. As a young man of 20, while toying with the idea of becoming a sculptor, Guru Dev went in search of a piece of mahogany to carve. He found a man, from the Totonaco tribe, a master of herbal healings and acupuncture, who had such a tree. A connection was made between the two and Guru Dev began learning from him. "He taught me the art of seeing, to look into connections in the natural, in a natural way…He was a man of awareness, whose main consideration was that awareness."

In 1971, Guru Dev began practicing Kundalini Yoga. He also opened a restaurant called Mason del Pecebre, which he owned for thirty years.

In 1976, Guru Dev met Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini Yoga and the Spiritual Leader of the Sikhs in the Western Hemisphere. Guru Dev was looking for a spiritual teacher, but Yogi Bhajan gave him the impression that he did not take disciples. "My life was pretty disorganized, so I could not even pretend or attempt to be his student." At the same time, Yogi Bhajan told others that Guru Dev would become a great healer.

Guru Dev continued studying Kundalini Yoga. In 1981, he became a Sikh and Yogi Bhajan began teaching him Sat Nam Rasayan, in the traditional way, in silence.

In 1985, Guru Dev Singh married Guru Dev Kaur and they raised two children.

In 1986, Guru Dev recognized the complete state of Sat Nam Rasayan. "One day, I was sitting working with him, and he induced the state, and I recognized it. On the next day he did the same, and I recognized it. The third day, it happened again, but this time a tape recorder that was playing nearby suddenly stopped."

Guru Dev continued healing others and as he taught Sat Nam Rasayan.

In 1989, Guru Dev and his family moved to Rome and founded International Sat Nam Rasayan.

In 1998, Yogi Bhajan named Guru Dev a saint. In the Sikh tradition, when a person has reached a level of consciousness, he or she can be named a saint.

Guru Dev's short-term goal is to refine the teaching process for Sat Nam Rasayan. He would also like to establish Sat Nam Rasayan as a school, and develop a structure for these ancient teachings, wherein the teachings are not sustained by a single person but by this school. For this reason, the non-profit organization, Center for Contemplative Awareness has recently been founded. The Center is in the process of purchasing land in Chiapas, Mexico.

For the long term, Guru Dev hopes that Sat Nam Rasayan will become part of the culture, as a way to approach many of the problems of health and mental health, not only as an absolute alternative, but as a complimentary one to be used along with other techniques. He believes that "Sat Nam Rasayan would take a very good position in the general health approach."

In 1988, Yogi Bhajan spoke to Guru Dev for the first time about what he had learned. "In this world there are only two people who are acquainted with this knowledge: you and I, what would happen if we died?" To date, there are hundreds of students studying Sat Nam Rasayan worldwide.

Guru Dev works with religious leaders around the world on a personal level. He has healed and still heals many people, in all walks of life, both in person and through remote healings. When Guru Dev heals someone, he hopes that "a person may continue evolving, without being distracted by the pain."

Sat Nam Rasayan®

Sat Nam Rasayan means "deep relaxation in the True Identity'. It is an ancient healing art. The purpose of Sat Nam Rasayan is to serve humanity. Sat Nam Rasayan works on a subtle level thru the projective meditative mind. Sat Nam Rasayan allows the healer to access and balance the five elements (air, earth, ether, fire, and water) and the pranic body.

Sat Nam Rasayan is part of the Golden Chain. It is the experience and mastery of the Sacred Space, and the meditative projective mind. Guru Dev Singh Khalsa has developed the School of Sat Nam Rasayan, to codify and establish a modality for teaching this sacred healing art. Guru Dev Singh is the first person to teach Sat Nam Rasayan in a linear form. Prior to this, Sat Nam Rasayan was transmitted in silence. You can find classes and practitioners of Sat Nam Rasayan in many cities worldwide, many with ties to Kundalini yoga centers and communities.

Even if you do not plan to become a healer, Sat Nam Rasayan is a great tool to add to your Kundalini Yoga teaching skills. A Sat Nam Rasayan Course taught by Guru Dev Singh Khalsa typically includes Kundalini Yoga Meditation Kriyas and awareness increasing meditation practices. The exercises, done as healer and client, help each participant experience directly their own capacity to open, stabilize and become aware of the sensitive space and ultimately the Sacred Space. Sat Nam Rasayan will enhance your awareness of your subtle body and expand the capacity of your meditative mind. This develops your ability to 'hold the space' when you teach Kundalini Yoga classes and opens your compassionate awareness so you can be sensitized and present to each student in your class.

Guru Dev Singh Khalsa has said that if you are able to become nothing and reach the state Yogi Bhajan calls 'shuniya', God himself will grab you and you will become his servant. As a Sat Nam Rasayan healer/ practitioner you will learn the nature of surrender and then the Sacred Space starts to serve you. The mind of the Sat Nam Rasayan healer/ practitioner can become transcendent and in the vastness of this consciousness healing will happen. This state is a pure meditative absorption between the Healer and Client, in the Divine.

"In the Age of Pisces humans approached God, making an effort to cleanse and purify themselves in every way. Now, in t he Age of Aquarius, it is God who approaches humankind and we need only be aware of it and allow it to happen. Spiritual practices are no longer as rigid or difficult as before, they are, however, more subtle. In this age, it is not a question of trying to know but rather of recognizing that Knowledge is already within us."
