New York World Congress, abstract: Integrated Psychiatry

For many years we have been witnessing a battle between Western Medicine and Traditional Medicine. But would it be possible to work together instead of fighting?

This working together is called Integrated Medicine and has been promoted by late Prof Dr Anton Jayasuriya for more then 40 years. It seems that he was way ahead on his time. The last years there seems to be an increasing interest in Integrated Medicine by the Western Medicine practitioners. Recently 27 medical academic centres in North America joined in a consortium for the promotion of Integrated Medicine. That sounds great, but to change from conventional Western Medicine to Integrated Medicine is not easy! In this presentation we will look at the experiences of a Mental Health Clinic in Holland trying to establish Integrated Psychiatry.
